It’s hard to believe that there are only three months left in the first year of our hiking and writing group. A friend and I started the group as a way to spend time together doing something we both enjoy. We hike on the third Saturday of each month and write on the following Wednesday night. I lead the hikes, Marjorie leads the writing sessions. Women are asked to sign up for both. The idea is to develop a bond during the hike that spills over into the writing session. We limit the group to 12 participants – but it isn’t always the same 12.
Most of the women are from Marjorie’s church so some of them know each other but many do not. I’m guessing that the age range is from mid-40s to mid-70s. There are different fitness levels but it seems to work out as the group naturally falls into clusters of three or four women walking at the same pace.
Here are a few pictures from my I-phone of last Saturday’s hike. When we gather on Wednesday night for the writing, we “check-in” around the circle about the hike. The beaver dam, the old gnarled trees and the stark beauty of a bare winter landscape were the most noted features of the hike.
